Eighth Aerial Port Squadron, USAF in Vietnam

Bill Beck

8th MOB, 1969-1970

Bill was in some heavy action with the MOB at Katum in December, 1969.
Katum was known to C-130 crews as "Kaboom" due to the heavy action in the area - and particularly because of enemy anti-aircraft fire directed at the Hercs.

The photo below shows Bill receiving the Bronze Star with a "V" from Colonel Lisec for his actions that day.

Article about MOB Teams - Vietnam Airlifter - March, 1970

The Vietnam Airlifter covered stories about Tactical Airlift in Vietnam.

8th MOB Teams set records in loading and off-loading C-123s and other aircraft at some pretty remote locations - particularly small outposts like Rang Rang which were along the Cambodian border.
In fact, Rang Rang was quite near - only a few klicks south of - COSVN - Communist HQ in Cambodia.
